[Update: Some of the specific concepts behind this post are a bit dated, especially when it comes to creating custom content types in Drupal. As of Drupal 5, custom content types can be created from within Drupal core, and enhancements can be added to any content type through use of CCK and complementary modules (as opposed to using Flexinode, which is no longer the preferred way, from my own perspective). On Drupal.org there is a discussion about how various web designer/developers would approach developing a simple website with just a few static pages.
The pejorative term for this kind of website is "brochureware" ... and in this case it is rather descriptive. Most websites -- especially small business sites -- follow this holdover of 1990s worldwide web thinking, where the website in question effectively serves as an online brochure.
The exercise on Drupal.org turned out to be interesting, at least to me, so I thought I'd repost what I wrote there:
